What is the Erasmus Program?

The Erasmus Programme is a European Union program designed to encourage cooperation among higher education institutions. It provides non-repayable financial support to enable universities to develop and implement joint projects and to carry out short-term student and staff exchanges.

In addition, the program promotes strengthening cooperation between higher education institutions and the labor market in order to align higher education systems with the needs of the business world and to enhance the employability of university graduates.

The main objective of the program is to improve the quality of higher education in Europe and to strengthen its European dimension.

The Erasmus Program seeks to achieve this objective by:

  • Encouraging international cooperation between universities,

  • Facilitating reciprocal mobility of students and academic staff across Europe,

  • Contributing to the academic recognition and transparency of studies and degrees obtained in participating countries.

Through higher-quality higher education opportunities in Europe, graduates become better equipped individuals who can respond more effectively to the expectations of the labor market. The mobility opportunities offered by the program also help reduce prejudices among European societies within academic environments.

Since its launch in 1987, more than 1.5 million higher education students have spent a study period in another European country, gaining the opportunity to experience different cultures and societies. The program aimed to reach 3 million Erasmus students by 2012.

Erasmus Activities of the Department of Archaeology

Since 2004, the Department of Archaeology has maintained student exchanges under Bilateral Erasmus Agreements (LLP) conducted within the framework of European Union Programs with various universities across Europe.

The Department of Archaeology is one of the most active departments within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and across Pamukkale University in utilizing these exchange programs effectively.

In addition to undergraduate students, mobility opportunities are also maintained at the Master’s, PhD, and academic staff levels, enriching the department’s work through mutual cooperation.

Students of the department who meet the criteria determined by the Pamukkale University International Relations Office may benefit from these international exchange programs.
