Stadion
The Stadion oriented in a north-south direction is located on the western slope of the city and just west of the Roman Baths. The western slope of the city where the monument is located, stands out as a section where important public buildings were built, the development of the city was completed and new social areas emerged with the Roman Imperial period. The structure which is built making use of the topography, has a length of 254 m and a width of 48 m; thus, it constitutes the largest structure in the city. The western wing of the rows of seats is supported by buttresses; the east wing is smaller in scale and rests on the ground. The monument has a single sphendone (round end), and the details of this part in the north are discernible. Considering the architectural conditions of the period, it can be considered as a quite large monument for a city like Sillyon, which was fitted into a narrow hilly area. However, the size and capacity of the monument can be explained with the density of settlements around Sillyon, rather than the city itself. It should have been built by urban planners as a structure that responds to the population potential of the city. It can be said that Sillyon’s Stadion was built in the Roman Imperial period and remained in use afterwards. There are also traditional Turkish houses dating to the Early Republican Period.
