Location and Geography
Sillyon is located in the ancient region of Pamphylia, and in modern day Kocagözler locality of Yanköy neighbourhood of Serik district in Antalya province. Located about 8 km north of Antalya-Alanya highway the city is easily seen from the highway. Sillyon lies about 12 km from its western neighbour Perge, and about 17 km from the neighbouring city of Aspendos in the east. The rocky hill, where Sillyon stands, reaches an altitude of 235 m and dominates the Antalya Plain, which is bordered by Toros (Taurus) Mountains; it is the highest point of Pamphylia region in this form. Although the early settlements of Perge and Aspendos were also built on a high hill, it is seen that Sillyon was referred to as a fortress city in the historical process due to its hard and impenetrable topography.
