Physiotherapist; is a healthcare professional with professional autonomy who plans, implements, re-evaluates, and reports physiotherapy and rehabilitation programs aimed at improving function and functional capacity in accordance with the physician’s diagnosis, by determining individuals’ functional limitations, pain, disability, and abilities through specific assessment, evaluation, and examination methods in cases of pain and functional disorders arising from injury, disease, congenital disability, musculoskeletal disorders, or other conditions. Physiotherapists also plan appropriate exercise and preventive programs to maintain the health of healthy individuals.

Throughout the four-year educational program, students are taught how to carry out activities such as observation (clinical findings, the effects of applied treatment on tissue surfaces, movement capacity, level of ability, etc.), listening (medical history, personal history, heart and respiratory sounds, speech pathologies, etc.), palpation (tissue stiffness, temperature, the relationship of tissues with adjacent structures, etc.), application (electrical agents, therapeutic massage, exercises aimed at improving function, interventions to promote tissue healing, etc.), direct performance (improving sitting and walking activities and other activities of daily living, etc.), and communication (with patients, relatives, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals, etc.) in order to enhance individuals’ health status and quality of life.

It is essential that prospective physiotherapy students possess the most appropriate physical, visual, auditory, cognitive, and emotional competencies to effectively perform observation, listening, palpation, application, direct performance, and communication tasks. These competencies will enable them to optimally learn and implement physiotherapy and rehabilitation assessment and intervention programs.
