DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOTHERAPY AND REHABILITATION

Operating under the Pamukkale University School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation aims to educate physiotherapists who adhere to ethical principles, adopt a problem-based learning system, embrace evidence-based practice, and are committed to lifelong learning. Through interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches, the Department actively contributes to preventive rehabilitation, patient assessment, and treatment processes to enhance individuals’ well-being and, consequently, their quality of life. By closely following current literature and promoting evidence-based practice, it continues its educational activities with the objective of training researchers who produce scientific knowledge and contribute to the advancement of the field.

Faculty members of the Department conduct educational and research activities within the Spinal Pain and Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Units, as well as in units affiliated with the Pamukkale University Health Practice and Research Center, thereby contributing to physiotherapy and rehabilitation services. In the Spinal Pain Unit, preventive and therapeutic physiotherapy and rehabilitation interventions are provided for individuals with musculoskeletal disorders referred by the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Medicine, Pamukkale University. This unit delivers physiotherapy and rehabilitation services to individuals experiencing spinal pain–related musculoskeletal problems, including low back and neck pain, disc herniation, fibromyalgia, spinal deformities, and postural disorders.

In the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Unit, physiotherapy and rehabilitation interventions—primarily including respiratory physiotherapy and exercise programs—are provided to patients deemed in need of such services in the Departments of Chest Diseases, Thoracic Surgery, General Surgery, and Intensive Care of the Faculty of Medicine. Within this context, rehabilitation approaches are implemented for conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchiectasis, postoperative respiratory complications and functional limitations, respiratory failure, and acquired muscle weakness. Undergraduate and graduate-level education is offered within the Department, and physiotherapists who complete their theoretical and practical training are educated as specialized expert physiotherapists and physiotherapists with doctoral degrees in their respective fields.

All academic staff members affiliated with the Department actively participate in professional courses, seminars, and congresses, as well as in international academic staff exchange programs. In this way, current scientific developments in physiotherapy and rehabilitation are closely monitored. The Department provides both undergraduate and graduate education and aims to achieve high standards of quality in rehabilitation services by keeping pace with technological advancements in the field.
