1- Which students can enroll in the Foreign Language Preparatory Program?

-Newly enrolled university students whose departments have compulsory or optional preparatory classes can take the Foreign Language Preparatory Program at our Vocational School.

2. What are the conditions for exemption from the compulsory foreign language preparatory program?

a- Passing the proficiency exam administered at our school at the beginning of the academic year by scoring 70 or above out of 100.

b- Students who obtain a score of 80 or higher on the YDS and YÖKDİL exams for English Language Teaching and English Language and Literature departments; 70 or higher for other faculties where English is the language of instruction; and 70 or higher for faculties where French is the language of instruction, or who can document an equivalent score from exams specified in the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center's Foreign Language Exam Equivalency Directive and Equivalency Table, are exempt from the foreign language preparatory program. For the score obtained in these exams to be considered, no more than three years must have passed since the date of the exam.

c- Exemption from university entrance exams for students who have successfully completed a preparatory class at another university, as determined by a decision of the College's Board of Directors.

3. In which languages and at what levels are classes offered at the School of Foreign Languages, and for how many hours per week?

a- In the English Preparatory program, basic level (A1-A2) classes are given for 20 hours per week, and intermediate-upper level (B1-B1+) classes are also given for 20 hours per week. Academic level (B2) is compulsory in English Language and Literature and English Teaching departments, and optional in other English-language departments, also given for 20 hours per week. Review of basic and intermediate-upper levels is also scheduled for 20 hours per week.”

b- In the French Preparatory program, courses are given for 26 hours each, covering basic level A1-A2 and intermediate level A2+-B1 levels, with the same number of hours for repeating the level.

4- What are the preparatory class courses at the School of Foreign Languages?
The English preparatory program offers courses in Basic English/French, Reading Skills, Listening Skills, Speaking Skills, and Writing Skills at the beginner, basic, and upper-intermediate levels. The French preparatory program offers courses at the basic and upper-intermediate levels. At the academic level, courses are offered in Academic Reading, Academic Writing, Presentation Techniques, Academic Listening, and Speaking.


5- How are students placed in classes for the Foreign Language Preparatory Program?
- Students who will be enrolled in the foreign language preparatory program take a term placement test and are placed in appropriate classes (beginner, basic, intermediate-upper) according to their scores. The date of the term placement test is included in our College's academic calendar. Students who do not take the test will start their education at the lowest level. Students who cannot attend the level placement test at the beginning of the term will be given the opportunity to take the level placement test on a date to be determined by the Foreign Languages College administration, provided they submit a documented excuse. Students who have taken the initial placement test and have not submitted an excuse will not be able to take this test. English Teaching and English Language and Literature department students, if they start at the beginner or basic level, can complete the preparatory program at B2 level in 3 terms (one and a half years) if they are successful in each course. Students who cannot complete the preparatory program within one year can take exemption exams to complete the program within one year.


6. How does the Foreign Language Preparatory Program work?

-The Foreign Language Preparatory Program is a system where students begin their foreign language education at a certain level and, if successful, advance to the next level; if unsuccessful, they repeat the same level. Language levels in the English Preparatory program are: beginner level A1-A2, basic level A1-A2, intermediate-upper level B1-B1+, and academic level B2. For the French preparatory program, the basic level is A1-A2, and the intermediate-upper level is B1-B1+. The academic level is compulsory for English Language Teaching and English Language and Literature departments, and optional for other faculties and vocational schools where English is the language of instruction.

7. Is attendance compulsory in the Foreign Language Preparatory Program, and if so, for how long?

-Yes. Students are required to attend 80% of the classes each semester. Students who do not meet the attendance requirement will be considered to have failed the semester, will not be allowed to take the Final Exam, but may take the exemption exam at the end of the year.

8- How is the success evaluation of the course taught in each term determined, and what is the student's level of success?
- A student's end-of-term success evaluation score is calculated by summing 30% of the average of the midterm exams, 10% of the in-term quizzes, 10% of the average of online/offline assignments, projects, presentations, and/or similar work, and 50% of the Final Exam. For a student to be considered successful, the Final Exam result must be at least 50 out of 100, and the overall success evaluation score must be at least 70 out of 100. The passing level for the preparatory class is B2 for English Language Teaching and English Language and Literature departments, B1+ for other faculties and vocational schools where English is the language of instruction, and B1 for the French preparatory program.

9. What is the maximum duration of preparatory class studies in the Foreign Language Preparatory program? What can students do if they cannot complete the preparatory class within the specified time?

10- If I fail the optional preparatory class and then proceed to the department, can I take exemption exams to complete the preparatory class?

-Yes. Optional students can take preparatory class exemption exams until they graduate from their departments.

11- If I fail the optional preparatory class, will my scholarship be revoked?

-You can discuss whether or not the scholarship will be terminated with the relevant institution that provides the scholarship.
