Emergency and Disaster Management Students Received Search Dog Training Updated Date: 30 April 2026 Students in the Emergency and Disaster Management program at Serinhisar Vocational School received theoretical and practical training on the training and field work of search dogs from search dog trainer Tevfik Gül. The theoretical training began with the selection of dog breeds and continued with the details of dog training. Gül stated that a search dog needs to request a reward, such as food or a toy, from its trainer in order to search, and that training the dog with rewards yields more efficient results. He emphasized that when a dog's play instinct is high, it is more willing and energetic to search. Gül also shared his experiences from the February 6th earthquake and previous disasters, stating that the location of many people under the rubble in Hatay was determined using these methods. The training, conducted in a interactive format with the students, allowed them to ask questions about search dog training. In the practical part of the training, a simulation was conducted using Belgian Malinois and Jagdterrier dogs trained by Tevfik Gül, simulating the search for a missing person in nature. We thank Tevfik Gül for providing the training and wish him success in his work.
