451 EMERGENCY AND DISASTER MANAGEMENT
GENERAL INFORMATION
Emergency is used to describe all situations requiring priority. It can be defined as a set of events that are unpredictable, develop suddenly, and require rapid intervention. In emergency management literature, it is defined as ‘unexpected and unforeseen events’. Emergency situations are not continuous; they are time-limited and end when the factors causing the emergency cease to exist. Emergency situations are unexpected events that endanger life and/or property, health, and require immediate response by activating routine societal resources and procedures. According to the widely used definition made by the United Nations Humanitarian Relief Organization, a disaster is a natural, technological, or human-caused event and its consequences that cause physical, economic, and social losses for people, negatively impact communities by stopping or disrupting normal life and human activities, and which the affected community cannot overcome using its own resources and capabilities. Disaster hazards are sometimes naturally occurring, such as floods, earthquakes, landslides, droughts, avalanches, tornadoes, hail, blizzards, storms, and the like. In addition, dangers can be human-caused or technologically-driven, such as the release of lethal biological or chemical substances as a result of industrial accidents, or excessive radiation released into the atmosphere from nuclear facilities. Our country is one that experiences many natural disasters, primarily earthquakes and floods. With the awareness of our Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's words: "It is necessary to think about preventive and protective measures before disaster strikes; there is no benefit in lamenting after it has occurred," this program aims to train expert and technical personnel who are well-versed in what should be done before, during, and after all natural disasters, capable of taking all necessary precautions, and able to intervene immediately.

Objectives
The main objective of this program is to provide education that fosters aptitude and interest in Emergency and Disaster Management, and a disciplined and systematic study approach. To this end, the Emergency and Disaster Management Program will ensure the training of experts who have acquired the skills to analyze, interpret, and evaluate information related to the field. Thus, it aims to produce qualified, knowledgeable, and well-equipped graduates that our country needs both professionally and scientifically. One of the most important advantages of Emergency and Disaster Management education is that almost all of its students are already working in the workforce, having the opportunity to directly apply their education and have expectations from the courses. This ensures that our students gain knowledge and experience in Emergency and Disaster Management, enhance their professional development, and are equipped with the knowledge to better meet the needs of their workplaces. Another important advantage of Emergency and Disaster Management education is the increase of a qualified workforce, which is extremely important for our country, without a decrease.
