Organized this year for the 7th time by the Department of English Language and Literature of our Faculty, the PACES Student Conference welcomed young researchers and future academicians. The conference, which opened on December 15, 2023, in the Prof. Dr. İsmail Çetişli Conference Hall, was themed “Culture.”

After the moment of silence and the National Anthem, the conference began with the opening speech of Prof. Dr. Yasemin Beyazıt, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The event brought together students from 12 different universities in Turkey — Pamukkale University, TED University, Hacettepe University, Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Selçuk University, Ege University, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Yeni Yüzyıl University, Üsküdar University, Kocaeli University, and TOBB University of Economics and Technology — representing departments such as English Language and Literature, American Culture and Literature, Sociology, and Translation and Interpreting Studies.

The conference aimed to bring together young academicians working in the fields of language, literature, and culture, providing them with an opportunity to present their research, share ideas, and engage in discussions. At the same time, the importance of passing on the rich cultural and literary heritage of the Republic to younger generations in its 100th year was emphasized.

Since its first year, PACES has aimed to be a stepping stone for promising students pursuing academic careers. This year, the conference hosted Dr. Trevor John Hope from Yaşar University as a guest speaker. Sharing his valuable insights on literature and culture, Dr. Hope offered an inspiring perspective to the young researchers.

At the end of the conference, the young researchers were honored for their contributions, and it was announced that the next conference would be held in May 2024, with the theme “Nature.”
