Aim:

 

Introducing thermoelectric modules and systems to students and determining the optimal design of these modules and systems for engineering applications.

Content:

 

Introduction to thermoelectric modules and systems. What are thermoelectric generator and cooler modules? Ideal equations, maximum parameters and effective material properties of thermoelectric generator and cooler modules. Optimization of thermoelectric generator and cooler modules. Modeling and optimization of thermoelectric generator and cooler systems with fan and heatsink.

  • Be able to comprehend the behavior of thermoelectric effects and modules.
  • Be able to know thermoelectric generator and cooler modules.
  • Be able to model a thermal system with thermoelectric generator and cooling modules.

MAK 640 - THERMOELECTRIC MATERIALS AND FABRICATION METHODS

Aim:

 

Introduction to the synthesis and fabrication methods of thermoelectric materials and to teach the characterization processes of the fabricated thermoelectric materials to students.

Content:

 

Synthesis and fabrication methods of thermoelectric materials: Bridgman furnace, Sintering, Thin film, 3-D printer, Sol-gel, Polymer. Selection of thermoelectric materials according to synthesis and fabrication methods as well as operating temperature. Inorganic and organic thermoelectric materials. Characterization processes of the thermoelectric materials.

Learning Outcomes:

 

  • Be able to know the synthesis and fabrication methods of thermoelectric materials.
  • Be able to classify thermoelectric materials depending on synthesis and fabrication methods as well as operating temperature.
  • Be able to recognize inorganic and organic thermoelectric materials.
