Yatağan, is a suburb of Serinhisar district of Denizli. The art of blacksmithing, a legacy of Yatağan Baba, has continued in the village since its founding. Consequently, the art of knife making has developed, and cutting tools such as yatagans, knives, pocket knives, axes, hatchets, scissors, shears, plowshares, and sabers are still produced today. By being shipped all over the country, they introduce the creativity of Yatağan’s people in mining arts and their ancestral craft spanning back through history. The sabres synonymous with the name ‘Yatağan’ have entered the literature as ‘yatağan’. In the early 13th century, Osman Gazi’s soldiers also used swords made by their own craftsmen in place of ordinary swords; these were known throughout Turkey as ‘Yatağan’ swords.
