General Information
The Food Technology Program provides a comprehensive education that starts from the characteristics of food raw materials and extends to the composition, processing, preservation, packaging, and storage of foods. The program aims to train technical personnel who can analyze the physical, chemical, and microbiological properties of foods, carry out quality control processes, understand food safety principles, and effectively apply current food legislation.
Students gain practical skills required in the sector by learning modern food production technologies; they reinforce their theoretical knowledge through laboratory work, technical visits, and industry collaborations. Graduates are equipped to take responsibility in production, quality control, R&D, laboratory, and management processes in food production facilities.
Objectives
The program aims to train qualified and skilled technical personnel who can participate in all stages of the food industry, from production to consumption, and have comprehensive knowledge of the entire food chain. It prepares intermediate staff capable of working effectively in laboratory and production units of food enterprises, applying food safety and quality control principles, using modern production technologies, and keeping up with current industry regulations.
Admission Requirements
Determined by ÖSYM in accordance with the relevant legislation of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
Graduation Requirements
To graduate, students must successfully complete courses totaling 120 ECTS credits and undertake a 30-working-day summer internship in fields related to their profession.
Employment Opportunities
Graduates of the Food Technology Program (Food Technicians) have broad employment opportunities in both public and private sectors related to the food industry.
Public Sector: Graduates can work in relevant units of government institutions such as control laboratories under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, municipalities, the Hıfzıssıhha Institute, and provincial and district health directorates.
Private Sector: Graduates can find employment in seafood, fruit and vegetable processing and storage facilities, drinking, utility, and industrial water production centers, meat and dairy product enterprises, and sugar and bakery product production facilities. They may work in quality control, production, R&D, and laboratory departments. Additionally, environmental analysis laboratories, packaging sector quality units, and certain pharmaceutical companies also provide employment opportunities for food technicians.
Degree Awarded
Students who successfully complete all program requirements are awarded the Associate Degree in Food Technology. This degree qualifies graduates as Food Technicians with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to work effectively in the food technology sector.
