Objective
Since the 1980s, the liberalization of financial markets has had profound effects on capital markets. The acceleration of globalization and the easing of financial regulations have paved the way for international investment and trade by deregulating capital flows. During this period, many countries opened their financial markets to foreign investment and liberated capital movements, contributing to the growth and deepening of capital markets. Driven by significant advancements in information and communication technologies, this transformation has led to increased international competition, a diversification of financial instruments, and a proliferation of market participants.
On the other hand, financial liberalization has also made financial crises more prevalent. Various crises have highlighted the necessity of maintaining the stability of the financial system. In capital markets—one of the core elements of the financial system—the importance of financial regulations and oversight mechanisms has increased, making transparency and efficiency mandatory. These changes have necessitated the development of the ability to manage both the opportunities and the risks inherent in capital markets.
The Turkish capital market has been significantly influenced by this transformation, showing even greater growth and development during this process. To elevate this progress, there is a growing need for a skilled workforce that understands legal and institutional structures, stock exchanges, capital market instruments, and emerging trends in the sector.
In this context, the Department of Capital Markets is designed to enable students to specialize in financial markets. The department aims to provide a deep understanding of market operations, financial instruments, investment strategies, and risk management. By blending theoretical knowledge with practical applications, it empowers students to build successful careers. Guided by the vital importance of trust and transparency, the program instills ethical and professional standards, making students proficient in fields such as financial analysis, financial reporting, regulations, portfolio management, and investment consultancy.
Program Content
The Department of Capital Markets is a four-year undergraduate program that has been providing education in the Çivril district of Denizli since the 2013-2014 Academic Year. Our department offers an optional foreign language preparatory year. In the first year, courses across all departments in our Faculty follow a common curriculum. Starting from the second year, each department focuses on theoretical and practical courses specific to its field.
The curriculum begins with fundamental financial concepts. Students develop financial analysis skills through core courses such as micro and macroeconomics, financial accounting, financial management, and statistics. These courses help them understand how financial markets function and how economic indicators influence financial decisions. Technical courses like financial mathematics and modeling are also included.
Advanced courses cover topics such as investment analysis, portfolio management, fundamental and technical analysis, derivative markets analysis, and independent auditing. Students learn to analyze and manage various financial instruments, including stocks, bonds, options, and futures. Theoretical knowledge is reinforced through case studies and simulations. Furthermore, students gain comprehensive knowledge of capital market regulations and legal frameworks, ensuring they are well-equipped with legal compliance and ethical standards upon graduation.
Additionally, starting from the 2024-2025 academic year, students will complete 7 semesters of their 8-semester education at the faculty and 1 mandatory semester in the sector under the title of "Vocational Education in Business" to strengthen their practical skills.
