Department of Music Education

The Department of Music Education, part of the Department of Fine Arts Education at Pamukkale University's Faculty of Education, was established in 1995 and began offering undergraduate education in the 1995-1996 academic year with 5 instructors and 20 students. In the 1997-1998 academic year, a master's program was introduced, and graduate education commenced. Over the next ten years, the department expanded its staff to 16 faculty members and 150 undergraduate students, producing nearly 750 graduates to date. In 2006, on the occasion of the department's 10th anniversary, the "National Music Education Symposium" was held in collaboration with Tübitak and Pamukkale University. The symposium, inaugurated with a concert by artist Hakan Aysev, hosted faculty members from 25 universities.

Initially housed in a prefabricated building on the İncilipınar campus, the department moved to a new building in 2010, designed and constructed to meet the needs of music education. This new building is located on the Kınıklı campus. In 2017, the "1st International Symposium on Art Education" was held by Pamukkale University in collaboration with the Department of Painting Education, under the theme of art education for a sustainable future. The doctorate program was launched in the 2019-2020 academic year, and student admissions began.

The language of instruction in the undergraduate and graduate programs conducted by the department is Turkish. The duration of the undergraduate program is 4 years, the master's program with thesis is 2 years, and the doctoral program is 4 years. The programs include undergraduate and graduate education in instrument training, voice training, and music theories. The undergraduate program features compulsory and elective courses in "Field Education," "Professional Knowledge," and "General Culture," covering almost all aspects of music. The Erasmus and Farabi programs facilitate active domestic and international student and academic staff exchange programs. 

The Department of Music Education, with its ensembles such as the PAÜ Polyphonic Choir, PAÜ Youth Chamber Orchestra, PAÜ Turkish Folk Music Choir, and PAÜ Turkish Classical Music Choir, composed of undergraduate students, has participated in numerous internal and external music activities and received awards. The projects and studies prepared by the faculty members also contribute to these achievements. The primary goal of the department is to contribute to academic life and art and music education institutions in national and international circles and to ensure the development of Turkish musical life through its undergraduate and graduate programs.

As of the 2023-2024 academic year, the Department of Music Education employs a total of 18 faculty members, including 3 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors, 7 Lecturers, and 2 Research Assistants, and continues its activities with 105 undergraduate students.
