OBJECTIVES

The aim of the Civil Defense and Firefighting Program is to train individuals equipped to contribute to the fire department and combat fires. The education provided in the program trains knowledgeable individuals capable of extinguishing fires and making the necessary interventions to save lives and property from fires. Graduates of the program are knowledgeable not only in fire intervention but also in providing training to institutions or individuals on fire prevention.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In accordance with the regulations determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), student admission to this program is through the examination system conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). After students indicate their program preferences, they are placed in the relevant programs by this center based on their exam scores.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

The Civil Defense and Firefighting program has a curriculum structure of 3 semesters of education and 1 semester of on-the-job training (3+1). Students must take a total of 30 ECTS credits in compulsory courses and elective courses of their choice each semester, totaling 120 ECTS credits over four semesters. Courses are structured around compulsory courses such as combustion and fire knowledge, vehicle and equipment knowledge, fire intervention techniques, search and rescue, as well as elective courses. A GPA of 2.30 per semester is required for graduation. Graduates of the program receive the title of "Civil Defense and Firefighting Technician".

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates of the Civil Defense and Firefighting program; Graduates of this program are employed as Search and Rescue Technicians in Emergency Management Directorates, Search and Rescue Technicians in Civil Defense Search and Rescue Unit Directorates, Fire Safety Officers in Hotels, Fire and Fire Safety Equipment Sales and Material Manufacturing Companies, Fire Safety Officers in Organized Industrial and Industrial Establishments, and Occupational Safety and Health Technicians. Areas where program graduates can work in the public sector include: as "firefighters" in metropolitan municipality fire departments and municipal fire directorates, as "firefighters" in various public institutions, as "ARFF officers" in State Airports Authority, and as "fire technicians" in some institutions.

TRANSITION TO HIGHER DEGREE PROGRAMS

Upon successfully completing this program, students can, if they wish, take the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS) administered by ÖSYM and continue their undergraduate studies in the following undergraduate programs:
