Educational and Instructional Process

Inputs

• Individuals who get enough scores from the High School Entrance Exam can become a student in the program.  Approximately 350 teacher candidates continue to their undergraduate education in the Science Teaching Undergraduate Program.
• Students who meet the requirements in the Instruction of Pamukkale University Double Major Undergraduate Program can also receive a bachelor’s degree in the Science Education Department as a second major in addition to their department they are studying.

Outputs

• Training undergraduate students as teachers about having positive attitudes toward their profession, having qualifications required by their profession, being an appropriate model for the students in their personal and professional lives, monitoring the developments regarding working fields, developing their knowledge and skills constantly, using the time efficiently and having effective communication skills.
• Training undergraduate students as teachers who can generate new knowledge and use it with technology, create, and have the ability to solve our country's problems.
• Approximately 100 teacher candidates graduate per year.
• Graduate teacher candidates can work as science teachers in public or private schools or study centers.
• Graduate teacher candidates can receive academic degrees in master’s and doctoral programs within the scope of Science Education Department. 

Information

• Science Education Department provides 4-year undergraduate education.
• Formal education is carried out in the program.
• Educational and instructional activities are carried out in a democratic and participatory environment and suitable for developments and changes in the field with dynamic academic staffs.
• The main purpose of educational and instructional activities is to train science teachers about thinking scientifically, searching, inquiring, and adapting innovations.
• There are 8 professors, 2 associate professors, 9 assistant professors and 2 research assistants in the department. Applications of the courses are carried out in physics, chemistry, biology, and science laboratories. 

Activities

• Science Education Department is a 192-hour program including 147 hours theoretical courses and 45 hours practical courses.
• The program includes 4 years and 8 semesters.
• It is required to get a minimum of C score from all courses and to achieve an average of 2.30 to graduate from the program.
• Students in the program undergo training in the middle schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the scope of Teaching Practice I-II courses.
• Introductory meetings for all departments in the faculty are held at the beginning of each Fall semester during a week for the orientation of new students. Faculty members and students come together in these meetings and necessary information for their orientation is given to students. 

Feedback

• Academic Board Meetings are held at regular intervals throughout the academic year and assessments about educational and instructional process are made.
• General evaluation of inputs and outputs by focusing on the subjects such as students’ entrance scores for departments, the appointment status of the graduates, the statistics of the scientific publications etc. is made at the General Academic Assembly Meetings, which are held at the beginning and end of each academic year.
• Internal Stakeholder Satisfaction Surveys, which are designed based on the Institutional Internal Evaluation Report Preparation Guide of the Council of Higher Education, are applied to academic staffs, administrative staffs and students with the scope of internal evaluation. There is also Pamukkale University Academic Support Project, which is a comprehensive research project for monitoring and rewarding academicians’ educational performance.
