History of our department
The Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations is rooted in the discipline of social policy. Under the leadership of Gerhard Kessler, one of the scientists who came to Turkey from Germany, a chair of social politics was established at Istanbul University in 1936, followed by a chair of social politics under the roof of Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Cahit Talas, one of our former Ministers of Labour, in 1960.
In 1980, after the establishment of the Council of Higher Education, Labour Economics and Industrial Relations Departments started to be established in the restructuring process of universities. The aim of the department is to examine labor relations in the light of various disciplines of social sciences such as social policy, law, economics, sociology, psychology and management and to provide education and training in this context.
In Pamukkale University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, the department was established in 2004. Since 2004, the department has been carrying out undergraduate education and training activities, and has been conducting a master's program since 2009 and a doctoral program since 2014 under the umbrella of the Institute of Social Sciences of the same university.
