The Erasmus program is an exchange program run by the European Union. It aims to improve and enhance the quality of inter-university education by promoting cooperation between higher education institutions in EU countries (Erasmus KA 131) and candidate countries (Erasmus KA 171). This program was created to provide students with international educational opportunities and to increase cooperation between countries. In addition to academic and youth exchange programs, it also includes cooperation projects in internships, work, and sports. Through these exchanges, participants gain international experience, seeing and learning about different cultures and lifestyles firsthand.

The Erasmus program offers opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students to study and intern abroad, as well as opportunities for faculty members to take courses, teach courses, and collaborate on various academic projects. The program provides students and faculty with significant international opportunities to participate in international training programs, research projects, and academic curriculum development.

The Erasmus program, implemented under the Lifelong Learning Programs between 2007 and 2013, has been implemented as Erasmus+ since 2014. Many programs implemented under the name of Lifelong Learning (Comenius, Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci programs, the Youth Program, and 5 international cooperation programs: Erasmus Mundus, Tempus, Alfa, Edulink, and the Cooperation Program with Industrialized Countries) are grouped under the Erasmus umbrella. As a comprehensive student exchange and cultural program, the Erasmus program allows participants to study, teach, or intern at a foreign company abroad for a period of their lives.

Student mobility in higher education is open to students enrolled in formal education at higher education institutions. Student mobility under the Erasmus program takes place in two ways.

1- Learning Mobility

2- Traineeship Mobility

1. General Information About Erasmus Student Learning Mobility

This type of mobility allows students enrolled in a higher education institution in Turkey that holds the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) to participate in an exchange program at another ECHE-holding higher education institution in a European country for one or two semesters (between 3 and 12 months) within one academic year, and to receive financial support for their stay abroad.

2. General Information About Erasmus Traineeship Mobility

Unlike learning (coursework) mobility, traineeship mobility involves a student enrolled in a higher education institution undertaking an "internship" at a company abroad. While these two types of mobility differ in their objectives, they are both part of the Erasmus project. The aim of traineeship mobility is to enable the student to gain international work experience in their field of vocational training.

The duration of the activity is a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 12 months, applicable separately for each educational level (undergraduate, graduate, doctorate). Erasmus Learning Mobility can be carried out within the framework of inter-institutional agreements. Institutions announce application forms to their students to determine the Erasmus students who will go abroad within the framework of existing agreements. To benefit from Learning Mobility, students must apply to their institution's Erasmus Coordinator and participate in the selection process. Each institution determines its own application and selection dates.

Note: The student is responsible for the student's own travel arrangements, accommodation abroad, passport and visa procedures.

Note: Students who are accepted to benefit from Erasmus internship or learning mobility are required to attend information meetings organized by the International Relations Coordinator. These information meetings explain the workflow in detail and provide a roadmap for the student. Since the student is responsible for everything that needs to be done during the activity, these information meetings are particularly important for candidates who have been accepted to become Erasmus students.
