The foundations of the Faculty of Education at Pamukkale University date back to the Denizli Girls’ Teacher Training School, established in 1957. The institution was renamed the Denizli Education Institute in 1976 and later the Denizli Higher School of Education in 1982, when it became affiliated with the Buca Faculty of Education at Dokuz Eylül University. Following the establishment of Pamukkale University under Law No. 3837, dated July 3, 1992, the institution was reorganized as the Faculty of Education of Pamukkale University on November 10, 1992. In 1994, the Department of Art Education was established within the Faculty of Education. Its first studios were housed in temporary structures near the Technical Sciences Vocational School building, locally known as the “airplane school,” while theoretical courses were conducted in the former Girls’ Teacher Training School building. In 1998, as part of the Higher Education Council’s National Education Development Project, the teacher education system was restructured. As a result, the former Department of Art Education became the Division of Visual Arts Education under the newly established Department of Fine Arts Education. This restructuring established the institutional framework that the division maintains today. Over the years, the studios were relocated several times: first to the İncilipınar KYK Dormitory building in the early 2000s, then to the Faculty of Education building at Kınıklı Campus in 2008, and finally to the current C Block in 2020. Today, C Block houses the division’s studios, classrooms, and other educational facilities. Graduate education began in the mid-1990s under the Institute of Social Sciences and later continued under the Institute of Educational Sciences, established in 2011. In 2023, a doctoral program was established, admitting its first students in the Fall semester of the 2024–2025 academic year. With a history spanning more than thirty years, the Division of Visual Arts Education has made significant contributions to the academic, artistic, and cultural life of Denizli. Through its academic staff, contemporary approach to art education, and active engagement in artistic production, the division continues its educational and artistic activities as one of the long-established art education programs in Türkiye.
