Turkey has a rich variety of immoveable and moveable cultural properties from a variety of historic periods. A significant part of the abovementioned cultural heritage has been uncovered in the course of archaeological activities. When the study of the cultural properties by archaeologists and art historians is completed the moveable ones are taken to the museums and immoveable ones are put on display on site. However, the concerned historic properties and monuments deteriorate at the place of display. Having adapted to the stable conditions under the earth where they have been buried for centuries, even for millennia, these items have survived through time; however, when they are exposed to new conditions they start to deteriorate. For this condition, which puts the archaeologists and art historians in an awkward position alone, it is necessary to train and educate experts, who will be able to take correct scientific measures, to determine the ideal conditions for preservation, to conduct analyses on the materials, identification and development of conservation and restoration materials in conformity with the authentic texture of the items and universal ethics, to prepare implementable conservation projects. All this training is given at the Program of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage.
