Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry, established in 1994, is a competitive academic institution at both national and international levels. With its well-established history, strong academic staff, and laboratories equipped with advanced technology, the department aims to provide students with both the theoretical and practical foundations of chemical science.

About Us

Our department, operating under the Faculty of Science at Pamukkale University, was founded in 1994 and admitted its first students in the same year. While initially offering undergraduate education, it has expanded its academic scope through Master’s and Ph.D. programs conducted under the Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences, thereby advancing academic development to the highest level.

The primary mission of our department is to educate well-equipped chemists who are committed to ethical values, environmentally conscious, capable of analytical thinking, proficient in modern technologies, and responsive to the needs of industry.

Academic Staff and Research Areas

Our department has a dynamic and experienced academic staff recognized for their international publications and research projects. Educational and research activities are conducted under the following main divisions:

  • Analytical Chemistry

  • Inorganic Chemistry

  • Biochemistry

  • Physical Chemistry

  • Organic Chemistry

Our academic staff serve as principal investigators in numerous TÜBİTAK- and BAP-supported research projects and actively involve students in these research processes.

Laboratory Infrastructure and Facilities

Recognizing that practical application is fundamental to chemistry education, our department offers laboratories that meet international standards:

  • Student Laboratories: Three fully equipped laboratories where students apply theoretical knowledge through hands-on practice.

  • Research Laboratories: Thirteen specialized laboratories dedicated to graduate studies and research projects.

  • Instrumental Analysis Laboratory: Equipped with advanced technological instruments available for researchers and industry, including NMR, HPLC, GC–MS, FT–IR, UV–Vis spectrophotometers, thermal analysis instruments, AAS, and more.

Student Exchange Programs and Campus Life

Our students benefit from extensive international and national mobility opportunities offered by the university:

  • Erasmus+: Study and internship opportunities at leading universities across Europe.

  • Farabi and Mevlana Programs: Exchange opportunities with universities both within Türkiye and abroad.

  • Internship Opportunity: A compulsory 30-working-day internship enables students to gain sectoral experience before graduation.

Career Opportunities

Our graduates are employed with the professional title of “Chemist” in a wide range of fields:

  • Industry: Pharmaceutical, paint and coatings, textile, plastics, food, cosmetics, petrochemical, ceramics, and cement industries.

  • Laboratories: Environmental, food, and clinical analysis laboratories, as well as R&D centers.

  • Academia: Opportunities for academic careers at universities.

  • Public Sector: Expert positions in various ministries and governmental institutions.

As the Department of Chemistry at Pamukkale University, we are pleased to welcome all prospective students who aspire to build a bright future guided by the light of science.
