PUBLIC FINANCE PROGRAM

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Associate Degree Program in Public Finance is a four-semester program offered within the Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance. The program was established within Acıpayam Vocational School in the 2012–2013 Academic Year. The Public Finance Program started admitting students and actively providing education in the 2013–2014 Academic Year and has continued its educational activities since then.

The program is offered in daytime education mode, and the language of instruction is 100% Turkish. The academic staff of the program consists of three lecturers who are experts in their respective fields. The total student quota of the program is 67.

STUDENT ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Students are admitted to the program through the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS), YKS Additional Placement, and the ÖSYM TYT university entrance examination process. In addition, students may be admitted through Inter-Institutional Horizontal Transfer and Central Horizontal Transfer procedures.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM

The main objective of the Public Finance Program within the Associate Degree Program in Finance, Banking and Insurance is to educate students at the associate degree level who are equipped with financial knowledge appropriate to the demands of today’s world, where expertise, experience, and continuous effort have become increasingly important.

In addition, by closely monitoring developments in financial matters through both departmental and nationwide research activities, the program offers education with a strong emphasis on economics, accounting, and fiscal law. In this context, the program aims to meet the demand for qualified personnel in finance, accounting, and taxation required by private institutions in fulfilling their financial obligations to the state. At the same time, the program is designed to meet the public sector’s need for inspectors and specialists in areas such as modern taxation, tax auditing, and fiscal adjudication.

The Public Finance Program of Acıpayam Vocational School has adopted the mission of training qualified personnel who possess the knowledge, skills, and competencies required by society and institutions. Furthermore, the program aims to meet the sector’s need for qualified staff by educating individuals who continuously improve themselves, effectively use computer-based office programs and equipment, have a strong command of financial issues, and are capable of producing appropriate solutions to financial problems.

PROGRAM GOALS

The goals of the program are to become a leading academic unit that continuously enhances its quality, stands out with its research and educational excellence, is recognized at national and international levels, is preferred by both public and private sectors, and trains qualified public finance specialists.

STUDENT PROFILE

Today, the science of public finance plays a vital role in public administration. It is not possible to understand the economy without understanding the state. Therefore, it is essential to have a solid knowledge of financial matters and the ability to produce effective solutions to financial problems.

Students who wish to study in this program are expected to be capable of handling accounting practices, following and interpreting economic developments, generating ideas, and maintaining perseverance in reading and continuous research.

ACADEMIC PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates who complete the associate degree program may transfer to relevant undergraduate programs through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS) conducted by ÖSYM. These programs include Banking, Banking and Finance, Banking and Insurance, Economics, Customs Management, Public Administration, Public Finance, Capital Markets, Capital Markets Auditing and Rating, Insurance, Insurance and Risk Management, Political Science, Political Science and Public Administration, International Finance, International Business, International Trade, International Trade and Finance, International Trade and Logistics, and related fields.

In addition, graduates may enroll in the Open Education Faculties of Economics or Business Administration at Anadolu University without an examination and continue their education from the third year, eventually graduating with a bachelor’s degree.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR GRADUATES

Employment opportunities for graduates are extensive. Public finance professionals may work in State Economic Enterprises, local administrations, central and provincial units of the Ministry of Finance, Treasury Offices, Tax Offices, the Social Security Institution, the State Planning Organization, the Ministry of Customs, and budget and revenue-related units of other public institutions.

Graduates may also work in banks, financial departments of private sector organizations, or accounting offices as sworn-in certified public accountants or certified public accountants. In addition, after completing undergraduate education in relevant fields, graduates may obtain the title of Certified Public Accountant. With this title, they may establish their own offices or work as financial advisors in the accounting departments of enterprises.
