Our Department was established in 2022 within the Faculty of Agriculture at Pamukkale University and admitted its first students in the 2023–2024 academic year. The department includes the Department of Horticulture. Under this division, there are subfields covering the cultivation and breeding of fruit, vegetables, grapes, and ornamental plants. Although our department still has certain infrastructural deficiencies for education and research, our resources in this field are developing rapidly for a newly established faculty, supported by national and international project funding. In addition, our department participates in social responsibility projects related to its field and provides training—especially for regional producers—on modern cultivation techniques. The department has vineyard, vegetable, and ornamental plant plots, a greenhouse, and laboratory equipment. Therefore, our laboratory and production areas are open both to our own researchers and to external researchers.

Due to its suitable ecological conditions, our country holds a very important position among the countries engaged in agricultural production worldwide and serves as a gene center for many species and varieties. Furthermore, many species and varieties cultivated globally can be easily grown in our country thanks to its favorable ecology, and Türkiye occupies a very significant place in world agriculture with its richness in species/varieties and strong agricultural potential. Çivril district of Denizli province is one of the regions where agricultural production is particularly intensive.

The main objective of the Department of Horticulture is to train qualified agricultural engineers who possess sufficient knowledge and practical skills in the cultivation, breeding, quality control, preservation, and marketing preparation of horticultural crops, and who can meet the research, development, support, and personnel needs of both the public and private sectors.

The language of instruction in our department is Turkish, and the duration of study is four years (eight semesters). Our department continues its teaching and research activities with 1 Professor and 4 Assistant Professors. Theoretical courses are delivered with computer support in classrooms equipped with projectors and a capacity of 50 students. Practical courses are conducted in the Application and Research Area, which covers 670 decares and includes facilities for laboratory work as well as agricultural research and applications, and contains a 2,000 m² gothic greenhouse.
