The Department of French Language and Literature was founded in 1992 as a part of the Department of Western Languages and Literatures within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Originally named the Department of French Language and Literature, it received official recognition as an independent department in 2015 following approval from the Council of Higher Education, as indicated in the article dated 11.06.2015 (numbered 32234).
Our department consists of two professors, three associate professors, and one doctor faculty member. We began accepting students in the 2010-2011 academic year. Following the Presidential Decree dated 25.07.2022 and numbered 5868, the Faculties of Science and Letters of step universities have been restructured and our department now operates under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
During the preparatory and four-year undergraduate education, our students take intensive English and German courses, as well as French language, literature, and culture courses. Students with a sufficient grade point average can apply for minor or double major programs and our department accepts minor or double major students from various departments within our university. Our main minor and double major programs include English Language and Literature, Philosophy, Sociology, Archaeology, Art History, History, Turkish Language and Literature, Political Science and Public Administration, Business Administration, International Trade and Finance, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Tourism Management, and Tourism Guidance. Our graduates are employed in universities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, banks, tourism enterprises, companies, and private schools, working in various fields.
