WEST STOA OF THE AGORA
The stoa extends north-south along the west side of the Late Roman agora. It measures 5.80 m wide and 70 m long; it was designed and built together with the agora at the end of the the fourth – beginning of the fifth century AD (Fig. 1). Its timber and tile roof was carried by columns on the east and a continuous north-south wall with arches on the west (Fig. 2). Its floor is paved in opus sectile employing onyx plaques. A gateway accessed by climbing up six steps from the Colonnaded Street allowed entry into the stoa. Two doorways left on the west wall of the stoa should be leading into the Bouleuterion located to the west.
The analytic relevé and restoration project for the west stoa of the Late Roman agora prepared by the excavation direction was submitted to the Aydın Regional Board for the Preservation of Cultural Properties; the project was approved with decision no. 3444 dated 26 December 2014. Following probation, the columns were erected according to the project.
