VAULTED STRUCTURE
The mortar between the rows of stones had lost its binding capability,turning to dust (Fig. 1). New mortar conforming to the original was prepared and applied in order to strengthen the structure (Fig. 2 ).
A section of about 1.20x1.50 in the northwest of the vault had caved in time. A mould following the curvature of the vault was prepared and the vault was completed, mortar was applied. There were fallen parts also in the southern half of the vault (Fig. 3). Similarly, the vault was completed using a mould and mortar was applied (Fig. 4).
By the entrance to the structure, mould was again used to complete a fallen part of the vault in order to secure access (Fig. 5 ) and the vault was consolidated (Fig. 6). The surface of the fresco décor on the east wall, the edges of the surviving parts and parts to be filled were cleaned of soil and lime; the dirt and salts were removed using deionised water (Fig. 7).
