TERRA COTTA ARTEFACTS
Calcareous depositing caused by calcium carbonate in the earth reacting with the dampness is commonly attested on pottery finds (Fig. 1). Such artefacts were usually cleaned mechanically but when necessary chemicals active on alkaline salts were applied restrictedly. When such chemicals were applied then artefacts were cleansed with pure water. Then artefacts were consolidated using low concentration synthetic resins derived from acroloid with solubility in acetone, alcohol and toluene. Matching pieces were fitted using similar adhesives and missing parts were completed with gypsum. Finally, the artefacts were packaged and turned over to the storehouse (Fig. 2).
