HIERAPOLIS STREET

The street extending southward from the South City Gate 1 on the Colonnaded Street has a width of 10.80 m. Under the flooring blocks of the street runs a north-south sewage channel of 1.50 m depth and 70 cm width. Built with travertine blocks, this sewage channel carried away the waste water and rain water away from the city. The Colonnaded Street and the Hierapolis Street were planned and built in the Roman period. At their intersection stands the Orpheus Fountain. (Fig. 1)
