GRANARIUM
Adjoining the Arched Building on its
north the Granarium extending north-south must have served as the granary of
the city. It comprises two long halls measuring 41.30x4.50 m and 41.60x4.30 m.
Thought to have been built in the Roman Imperial period
the Granarium filled up with eroded earth following the termination of its original
function. Nevertheless, in the last phase of use during the fifth-sixth
centuries AD the walls were raised a little, ways for access were left at
places and rooms with brick flooring were built on the top. At the south end of
both halls, a section of 6.10 m in length were excavated down to their floor
levels and the walls reaching a height of 5.50 m were exposed.
