BAKED CLAY WORKS
The baked clay objects uncovered usually have calcareous layer on them formed by calcium carbonate in the earth reacting with the dampness (Fig. 1). Mostly, these objects were cleaned mechanically but at times chemicals were applied locally especially on the alkaline salts, which are difficult to dissolve. In case when chemical agents were used the objects were rinsed with pure water to remove any chemical residues. Thereafter, the objects were consolidated using low concentration akroloid derivative synthetic resins soluble in acetone, alcohol and toluene. Matching pieces were fitted with adhesives of the same quality; missing parts were completed with plaster; then, each object was properly packed and turned over to the storehouse (Fig. 2).
