    General Information About Faculty of Tourism

    Faculty of Tourism is in the status of four-year college offering undergraduate level university education. Education and training is being carried out in the departments of Hotel Management and Food and Beverage Management Departments since the academic year of 2009-2010. An intensive foreign language program is being applied from the first class of the education and at the same time second foreign language is obligatory for students.

     

        The Aims of Faculty of Tourism

    Faculty of Tourism aims to educate individuals who are well-qualified and who can work all over the world in the field of tourism which is needed in Turkey and global world. Besides it aims making researches in Tourism field.     General Information about Department of Tourism Management

     

    The Aims of Department of Tourism Management:

     

    To train well educated individuals who has adequate knowledge needed for basic tourism and service applications, further, who can meet the qualified manager needs dominating the management theories, has talent, vision and know-how to conduct and direct a company, capable of combining secientific information in management, questioning and reasoning and finally producing additional information.

     

    The Objectives of Department of Tourism Management:

    • To train well educated individual who;

    -is needed in official institutions and able to work internationally; capable of speaking at least two languages in advenced level; with adequate know-how about basic tourism and management;

    -has abilities of communucation and direction to question; aptitude to teamwork and good at human relations.

    • To guide the students to be sensitive about ethics, creating public benefit, and social responsibility practices.
    • To prepare projects according to sectoral aptitudes and demands, to help to produce solutions for existing and rising problems, follow the trends and make researches academically if needed for both insitutional and practicle also to educate academicians who can do these researches.
    • To cooperate with other national and international institutions to update and develop training programs for better education of the students.

    Learning Outcomes of Department of Tourism Management:

    1. Students get knowledge about management, marketing, manufacturing and finance topics.
    2. Students can put their knowledge of tourism management into practice and by this they can comprehend, analyze and offer solutions for the problems.
    3. Students can design and run the investment stage of the new enterprice operating in tourism and service sector.
    4. Students take roles in projects that contribute to the progress of tourism management.
    5. Students evaluate the concepts, ideas and data in tourism management field by scientific methods. They determine and analyze complicated issues and make discussions and offer solutions based on scientific proofs and researches.
    6. Students determine organizational goals and aims by having knowledge and evaluation mean for future projections by considering the present conditions of tourism enterprise. They take responsibility in difficult times of the firm to produce solutions.
    7. Students arrange and manage activities in order to improve the employees’ vocational development under their responsibility.
    8. As having learnt to learn they can do status analysis and take lessons from mistakes when they meet problems.
    9. Students comprehend strategic, tactical and operational aspects of the firm; they comprehend local, national, international and global aspects, they evaluate internal and external environment of the firm by using appropriate tools.
    10. Students inform people about tourism management whether they are in the sector or not. They transfer their thoughts and ideas about issues and solution ways by verbal and written clearly.
    11. Students have sufficient knowledge and skills about computer software and hardware and they use information and communication technologies.
    12. Students know at least a foreign language in advance level and they use another foreign language as second foreign language such as Russian and German.
    13. Students comprehend the socio-economic structure and the importance for the country. In this context, they have sufficient knowledge and they become conscious about job security, employee health, social security rights, quality control and management, protecting natural and cultural environment and business ethics which are related to society.
    14. Students specialize in a particular department of a tourism company (front office, housekeeping, sales&marketing, etc.) and they have sufficient knowledge about other departments. In addition, they also have sufficient knowledge about sub-sectors of tourism (accomodation, travel, food-beverage, etc.).

     

     

    PROGRAM QUALIFICATIONS

    To survey conseptions, ideas and data in the field of tourism by scientific methods, to determine and analyze the confusing problems and subjects, to be able to make arguments, to be able to develop suggestions upon the proofs and researches.

    Informing people whom are either intrested in or not about the subjects related to tourism management; transferring thoughts, problems and solution methods by writing and speaking noticeably to them.

    To be able to develop learning and learning skills and to determine the sources of the problems about critical ideas and performing this by being independent and with the practice of scientific knowledge.

    Designing skill about investment stage of a new business that will be established in the other fields of tourism and service sector.

    The skill of operating new businesses which will be established in the other fields of tourism and service sector by the view point of the five main functions of management.

    To apprehend strategic, tactical and operational dimensions of business management.

    To apprehend local, national, international and global dimensions of business management.

    To be able to find solutions through confusing and unpredictable situations that can be faced about hotel, travel and other touristic business classes by assuming responsibility.

    To be able to lead employees under the responsibility of him/her by planning the activities about their professional development.

    To be able to use the knowledge of computer software and hardware required by tourism with the technology of information and communication.

    To be able to have the capacity of considering social, scientific and ethic values while collecting data about the field, interpreting and announcing them.

    To understand the constitution of socio economics of tourism and comprehend the importance of it within the context of this constitution. With this constitution, to have enough knowledge and consciousness about the subjects like occupational safety, employee safety, social security rights, quality control and management, protecting natural and cultural enviroment all of which are required by society.

    To know the sectoral conditions coping with the constant fluctuations related to the flexible requests in the field of tourism management.

    To have the knowledge of using and evaluating resources to analyze the interior and external enviroment of a tourism business.

     

    Level of Qualification Gained from Department of Tourism Management:

     

    This is a first cycle degree program in the science of Tourism Management (240 ECTS).

    Students will be awarded, on successful completion of the programme and gain competencies, a degree of Bachelor in Tourism Management.

     

    Admission Requirements of Department of Tourism Management:

    Students must comply with the legal and academic requirements to access the studies inPamukkale University according to the process established by the ÖSYM (Higher Education Council Student Selection and Placement Centre) regulations. Students who have started studies in other universities within or outside of the country may apply for their recognition. The recognition record is unique for each student and therefore the procedure is carried out accordingly before the start of each academic year. More information about general admission requirements can be found in the catalogue of Information on the Institution.

    Under an established exchanges program or one approved by the University, exchange students from abroad may be accepted for studies on the courses taught in English. Or, if they are confident in Turkish, they may then enrol any courses, running in Turkish, shown on the Course Structure diagram.

     

    Graduation Requirements of Department of Tourism Management:

    There is no final examination or examination period at the end of an academic year, or at the end of the study programme. There is, however, a final examination and examination periods, i.e., normally takes two weeks and starts immediately after at the end of each semester. Student is expected to have a successful completion of internship (60 working days) in industry before graduation. In addition to that student is required to complete a degree project and final year dissertation, (taken normally in 7th or 8th semester), which follows an oral presentation.

     

    Occupational Profiles & Access to Further Studies:

    Graduated students have job opportunity in tourism and other sectors.

    Course Objective:                         In this course, students will study Japanese through four skills at the level of A1 according to Common European Framework.

    Course Content:       This course includes subjects at the beginning level in Japanese like communicating, reading, greeting concerning the development of the capabilities writing and comprehending, introducing oneself, intrdoucing one’s family and friends, the usage of adjectives and question words, numbers, conjugation.
