Department of Medical Oncology

As a department under Pamukkale University Hospitals Internal Medicine Division, the Department of Medical Oncology has successfully performed the
medical treatment and follow-up of cancer patients applying both from Turkey and from around the world since 2004.
Pamukkale Üniversitesi Hastaneleri İç Hastalıkları Ana bilim dalına bağlı bir bilim dalı olan Tıbbi Onkoloji Bilim Dalı 2004 yılından bu yana Türkiye içinden ve
dünyadan başvuran kanserli hastaların medikal tedavisi ve takibini başarıyla gerçekleştirmektedir.

DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL ONCOLOGY PRIMARILY HANDLES CASES OF

- Breast Cancer,
- Lung Cancer,
- Colorectal Cancer,
- Stomach and esophagus cancer,
- Gynecological and urological cancers
as well as diseases of cancer in all systems. After being examined on sight, the patients are treated at the Pamukkale University Hospital outpatient
treatment center.

CAPABLE STAFF WIDE RANGE OF TREATMENT POSIBILITIES

The Department of Medical Oncology performs treatments under the supervision of 5 teaching staff members and 3 specialist doctors. A total of 9
oncology nurses provide services at a contemporary level in the chemotherapy unit. The unit has 29 chemotherapy chairs, 1 injection stretcher and 70
to 120 chemotherapy sessions are performed each day. Also the center possesses one of the 12 semi-robotic closed system drug compounding units
in Turkey. Services in this unit are provided by a total of 5 personnel members, with 3 members as biologists and the other 2 as biology technicians. The
clinic has a 25 bed capacity inside the internal medicine ward where both chemotherapy and supplementary treatment services are provided.

MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH AND
TREATMENTS GUIDED BY ACADEMIC
COUNCILS


Colorectal, thorax, breast, uro-oncology, ENT, endocrinenuclear
medicine, gyneco-oncology council meetings are
held regularly and seminars are given to assistants and inservice
nurses within the Medical Oncology Department
while the department performs its academic studies and
health services together. Being aware of the importance of
the multidisciplinary approach, the department attributes
highest importance to other disciplines with regard to
patient-based relations. Interdisciplinary information sharing
and council meetings are of crucial importance for the right
approach to be determined for the cancer patient. Today,
the field of oncology features the highest number of R&D
studies undertaken and the number of drugs with exorbitant
prices continues to increase. Having the latest drugs and
the most up-to-date treatment protocols applied within
its procedures, Pamukkale University Hospitals Medical
Oncology Department successfully takes a distinguished
place in international clinical studies.
